The Youth Civic Engagement Summit is an off-shoot of the 2014 Civic Engagement Summit. The intent of the Summit was to engage local youth to become agents of change in their communities. To that end, over 200 high school students from six local high schools were invited to attend. They listened to a keynote about the importance of using one’s voice in creating change that inspired and motivated them. They then engaged in a service event hosted by Stop Hunger Now, where they packaged 10,000 meals to send to developing countries.
The Youth Civic Engagement Summit is an annual event held in October as a way to excite and motivate students at the beginning of the year to engage in service throughout the year.
The event has featured Carlos Ojeda Jr., president and CEO of CoolSpeak, LLC as the keynote speaker. His presentation focuses on the importance of using one’s voice in creating change.
